和氏太極拳. What does it mean? Its the name if my Taijiquan. 1st is He. Its the family name of the creator of my style (pronounced her). 2nd is Shi, meaning family. So, He Family. 3-5 is Taijiquan. 3rd, Tai, means great, big, grand. 4th, ji, means supreme, utmost point (like Yang is the utmost point of light, Yin is the utmost point of dark). 5th, quan, means fist, style of Kung Fu. Sooo, Taijiquan (what we usually call Tai Chi in English) means Grand Ultimate Martial Art. NOT in that its the ultimate or best way to fight but Grand Ultimate in this sense refers to the Taoist concept of everything, Oneness, the universe in a way.
