Leading the musical charge is Cui Jian (pronounced “Sway Jen”), touted as “the father of Chinese rock music” and “Beijing’s answer to Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen.” Exclusively presented by Sennheiser, the official sound partner of Clockenflap 2013, Cui Jian tops the Sunday, December 1, line-up. Also confirmed to perform are: Berlin electronic music duo, Modeselektor; Belgium’s alternative rock/electronic specialists, 2ManyDJs; Canadian indie-rock twin-sister duo, Tegan and Sara; British dubstep king, Benga; Syrian master of Arabic folk beats, Omar Souleyman; and New York’s hip-hop/mixtape legend, DJ Neil Armstrong (also best known as Jay-Z’s former tour DJ). Beijing’s DJ/beatmaker duo DJ Wordy & Soulspeak and Hong Kong rockstress, Ellen Loo, also join the new line-up; and singer-guitarist Ryan Hui will perform on opening night, November 29, to mark the end of the global “Movember” campaign, which annually raises funds and awareness for men’s prostate and testicular cancer, and mental health.
