-More Final Fantasy Ports for PlayStation 4?- O_______o #FinalFantasy series executive producer Shinji Hashimoto made waves at PlayStation Experience when he announced a Final Fantasy VII… port — the PC port, that is, ported to PlayStation 4. While the news may have ruffled feathers with Final Fantasy VII faithful that a remake was in development, Hashimoto explains that it’s all in an effort to harbor greater accessibility to classic Final Fantasy games. At a recent Sony venue in Shanghai to promote the console in China, Hashimoto told outlets that the PlayStation 4’s lack of backwards compatibility and limitations with cloud-based streaming was the impetus for Square Enix to port Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster directly. Square Enix may have recently released DiveIn, a cloud-based system that will allow you to stream the company’s library to smartphones, but Hashimoto seems cognizant that other regions outside of Japan don’t have the infrastructure or the optimization to support a satisfactory level of service for all. Hashimoto elaborates that direct ports, through the PlayStation 4, are the best way to proceed — to create an ideal environment for the company’s aging library. When asked about PlayStation 3 titles like the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy, which are currently being ported to PC, Hashimoto says that the company hasn’t considered them yet — though the logistics in doing so would require them to contract an outside team to get it done. (Note: a fairly common practice Square Enix has employed.) Many of Square Enix’s internal staff that worked on the trilogy have moved to work on Final Fantasy XIV and Final Fantasy XV. It’s not hard to see why Square Enix pushing hard for the adoption of PlayStation 4 by fans. Final Fantasy Type-0 HD will release in March of this year, followed by an eventual Final Fantasy XV release. We reason that Square Enix wants everyone ready, if mostly to take advantage of a larger install base. What classic Final Fantasy games or remasters would you like to see come to the PlayStation 4?
