1 Timothy 1/3 As I urged you when I went into Macedonia--remain in Ephesus that you may charge some that they teach no other doctrine, 4 nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith. teach no other doctrine Right doctrine is important. Right life is important. They are complimentary. Two sides of the same coin. Paul tells Timothy “ watch your life and doctrine”. Too many have erred in this area. They hold on to their own thoughts or their hero’s thoughts. How to prevent deviant doctrines from influencing our lives ? A personal bible study is important but it must be backed up by adequate cross references. One portion of the scripture will not contradict another portion. Different evangelical commentaries can be compared. The basic truths of the Word should not be tampered with. Do not follow any hero. We have to fix our eyes on Christ , our only hero, as revealed in His word. No doctrine can be formulated based on extra biblical revelations. Associate with truly born again Christians from different churches. A good balanced popular study Bible is a must for personal Bible study and quiet time. We need to depend on the Holy Spirit to understand God’s word in the way He intended it for us. Prayer – dear Lord, We need your help and your presence. ...........................
