100 DAYS PROJECT - DAY 92 By Nadine Frew Read: 1 Timothy 4:6-10: A Trustworthy Saying Reflection: Paul continues to encourage Timothy to hold on to the “sound teaching” that he has been taught, not listening to the false teaching around him. In order to do this he would actually have to “train himself in godliness”. Just as physical training is challenging, so spiritual training takes effort and struggle. Perhaps Timothy is tired from the battle and wants to give up. Paul reassures Timothy that the struggle is worth it all, for he can trust in the promise of God, not just for now, but for eternity. Often we are tempted to believe that following Jesus is easy. I can be shocked and upset when things don’t work out as planned, particularly when I truly believe that I have heard God’s voice and am walking in obedience. The challenge for me is to keep trusting God’s character, while taking steps of hope towards Him instead of turning away from Him in frustration or anger. Something to think about: 1. Think back to how you were “trained in godliness” during your DTS. What lessons/truths that you learned during your DTS is God asking you to keep putting into practise now? 2. How is God asking you to deal with the unexpected trials and situations that have come into your life since the DTS? 3. Ask God to fill your heart with hope. What promise for your life (or prophetic word given during your DTS) does He want to remind you of today? Action Points: 1. Skim through 1 Timothy and colour or highlight the repeated words/phrases: “training in godliness”, “instruction”, “sound teaching” – notice how this is such an important theme throughout the book 2. Pray about one struggle or battle you are facing. Talk this through with a friend. What is one thing you can put into practise, as you “train in godliness”? 3. Pray for the persecuted church in one country (ie. N. Korea) Going Deeper: 1.
