1105 AM CDT 8/9 Just a heads up if youre heading out to the beach on this beautiful day. North-northeast winds will increase this afternoon and could result in hazardous swimming conditions from the mid to late afternoon into the early evening due to building waves and strong currents, especially at northwest Indiana beaches and exposed Cook County beaches. There is currently a Moderate Risk of swimming hazards indicated in the Beach Forecast for Cook County and Lake and Porter County Indiana. This means that large waves in the 2-4 foot range and strong currents likely along the shore. Only experienced swimmers should consider entering the water. There is a chance that waves end up building slightly more than expected into the 3-5 foot range or so, resulting in even stronger currents. These conditions could be dangerous for all but the most experienced swimmers. Stay tuned for updates and possible statement issuances this afternoon.
