12/5/14 - I have been sitting here for 5 minutes trying to find the words to start this post. I am just in awe as I witnessed Gods Miracle for Travis grow more today. When I got there, I was bombarded with story after story of what Travis has been doing this past week. Talking, reading, flirting, laughing, goofing, on and on and on. I finally make it to his room. He is sleeping. I sat down and he woke up. I said Good Morning...he nodded. I said use your words and he said Good Morning. We talked for a bit and watched TV. They came in to get him up for lunch and we headed to a different area because they are working on the day room that we normally sit in. 2 of the girls walked with us and when we got to the table, I put my phone on the table, asked him if he wanted to text Dylan and he said Yes. So, I get it set up, tell him to say hey bro...and what do you think he typed??? Yep, you guessed it...Hi Bro. As he was typing it, I motioned to the girls and they watched him do it. We had to show him where the send button was and he sent it. I explained to him that Dylan was probably working and may not respond right away. Travis started typing...Y..o..u..a..t..w..o..r..k (I about fell to the floor!!!) He actually took what I said and put it in his words in a text and sent it!!! Dylan responds with Mom?. Travis responds with nope guess who Dylan says who?. Travis says who do you think Dylan hopes it is Travis but says probably not. Travis response??? Probably yes. Conversation went on a couple more texts and at one point Travis even read the whole text out loud. Now, I will say that during a couple of those texts, I guided him with what to say, but much of it was from him and I just helped put it clearer. We ate our lunch and I put the tray with all the dishes (including cups with liquid in them) on his lap and told him he had to carry it and not let it spill until we got all the way to the lunch room. He did a great job. He has been using his right hand and leg a lot more. He did Swing & Sway again and really does a great job hitting that ball. A couple times he actually caught it and threw it back. We then went to the therapy room. Left and went back. One of the therapists had him put his hands together in front of him and lift them above his head 10 times. He counted out loud to 10!!! Then he gave him a 2lb weight, got it in his hand and had him do some reps. He told him to do 20. He was going to town and I was silently counting just to see if he was counting himself. Either he is really good, or he was counting because he stopped and I counted to 22. So, today, instead of standing, they talked about putting him in a normal wheelchair and see if he could move his feet to move the wheelchair around......this is where the story gets REALLY GOOD!!!! Dont stop now.... keep reading!!!! They got him in the regular wheelchair and put non-skid socks on his feet and....wait for it.... he moved his feet and started across the room!!!! Not only that, he actually did it ALL THE WAY DOWN THE HALL TO THE NURSES STATION. This is such a huge deal that everyone...including some of the residents, were lining the hall to watch and cheer him on. While they are tearing up because he is now independently mobile, I was tearing up watching all these people watching and cheering for Travis. Youve seen it in movies... crowds lining the street during a marathon cheering runners on... same thing... Got him back to his room, he asked to go to bed, and then he had popcorn and I left. God continues to bless and bless!!!!
