13th Dimension, the name of the planet in low gothic, resides as the 13th planet of the Albury system, part of the Ultima Segmentum. The planet capitol came under the piercing gaze of the Tyranid Hive Fleet known as Akitoothiss. A war already waged here from the honourable Imperial Fist Marines with the traitorous Deathguard. But as these two warring factions realised the full threat posed by the Hive Fleet, their long standing war ground to a halt ... though not allying together, a ceasefire was proclaimed in an effort to stem the xenos invasion. The Imperial Fists were at full company strength, the Deathguard lead by Typhus had a Baneblade at their disposal. The Tyranids, lead by a Hive Tyrant had access to Vanguard Infestations, and the awesome power of not one, but two, Carnifex Crusher Brood formations. The battlelines had been drawn. Tyranids won the roll to set up first but had the initiative snatched by the tactically minded Imperial Fists. Though considerable firepower was brought to bear, not a single unit was destroyed. Overwhelming psychic warfare allowed the Tyranids to bolsters their units - the Carnifexs gaining feel no pain throughout nearly the entire game. A combination of Tentaclids, Electro-shock cannons, and 3 rather angry Carnifexs resulted in the destruction of the Baneblade - a crippling blow. Typhus emerged from his Landraider to counter but rolled a 1 on his demonic weapon taking a wound as his body guard was first shot by Exocrines and then devoured by Carnifexs. Typhus survived a turn but couldnt stem the tide of alien monstrosities. The western flank suddenly teamed with life as Genestealers emerged from hiding, the northern flank, thick with heavy gun lines of Imperial Fists, was assailed by 6 Lictors and the Deathleaper itself. The Lictors surgically removed any anti-air power fist allowing 2 Hive Crones to focus their efforts on a Stormtalon destroying the flyer in one round - the pilots only consolation was successfully guiding the downed craft onto a Broodlord thereby killing it. The eastern flank held by a Tactical Squad was assailed by a Tyrannoctye dropping in from low orbit. A Toxicrene emerged and made short work on them, only to find itself the target of a full Jump Squad. Causing 3 deaths the Toxicrene couldnt hold out and was cast down. Centrally a full Jump Squad escorted by a Chaplain deep striked The Chaplain bolstered his squad on bravely full of righteous hate but ultimately succumbed to a Carnifex Stampede. Towards the central/northern sector the Imperial Fist captain fought with his command squad against the full might of a Hive Tyrant with Hive Guard. Although the Captains squad was torn asunder his will would not fail and he fought on ultimately to a standstill with the towering beast. The Deathguard continued to fight on, felling all the Hive Guard who had brought ruin to their vehicles, on the eastern flank another Deathguard squad broke a Maleceptor only to be trampled in return by Carnifexs. The Imperial Fists defence was so strong that a flying Hive Tyrant was brought down in overwatch. A second Hive Tyrant reached the lines and felled a unit in combat, only to be torn apart by subsequent overwatch by a stern Imperial Fist defence. The Hive Crones, now with complete air superiority, ruled the skies and brought ruin to the Imperial Fist forces who had survived the initial Genestealer attack. The entire eastern flank was wiped out. By the end, only a few loyalist forces remained. With the skies taken, and no less than six angry Carnifexs stampeding up the board the order was reluctantly given to tactically withdraw. Some of the populous of 13th Dimension had escaped the system, but sadly most were left to the voracious appetite that is Hive Fleet Akitoothiss ... the Tyranids advance continues ....
