149-years ago, a leader of men that fancied himself a reverend - TopicsExpress

149-years ago, a leader of men that fancied himself a reverend attacked an encampment of American Indians at Sand Creek in Colorado. The Indians had negotiated with the state government in good faith and were camping in the exact location where they had been told to camp. They flew the flag of the USA over their camp. Chivington and his men murdered old men, women, and children while most of the men were out hunting for food. They mutilated the bodies of the dead taking ears, scalps, and genitalia as trophies. When I visited the site of that horrific act of genocide in the 1990s, there were still human bones lying on the ground, what remained of a womans hand. Until we acknowledg this history and honor the victims of these government-sanctioned crimes, we will always dwell in a cowards paradise. We only have the illusion of happiness and liberty while our country is controlled by powerful men with small minds and bad intentions.
