15 years ago I walked home from my new job in Eugene Oregon to a phone call from my uncle and knock on the door from the police and a clergyman telling me my father was found dead. Surreal to be here again in Oregon during this time. Memories and emotions that Id suppressed I guess. The human mind is an enigma. I miss him profoundly. Discovered a book in our condo here, this quote from it jumped off the page to me. “If you hold back on the emotions--if you dont allow yourself to go all the way through them--you can never get to being detached, to true healing, youre too busy being afraid. Youre afraid of the pain, youre afraid of the grief. Youre afraid of the vulnerability that loving entails. But by throwing yourself into these emotions, by allowing yourself to dive in, all the way, over your head even, you experience them fully and completely.
