Historical note. On this date in 1768, the first edition of the Encyclopædia Britannica was published. Back in the late 1970s and early 1980s, when I was making good money from both my comic-book shop and my writing, I bought the then-latest edition of the Britannica. For years, it was proudly displayed on a bookshelf in our downstairs family room. But it was rarely used, not even by our kids. I think we donated it somewhere a couple decades ago, but I honestly dont remember. These days, I rely on the Internet for 90% of my research. But, man, did those thick volumes look cool.
