18 Days to Christmas Add One to the Top of The List Seems like weve barely started, but believe it or not, were already beginning the second week leading towards Christmas. Just in case we didnt notice, were getting used to the increased traffic and weve learned to expect much longer waiting lines everywhere. Its almost obvious: Christmas is getting closer. But theres still plenty of time to do everything we intend this Christmas. Therefore, its probably time to start making The List. Ah...the dreaded List. The List is all the things that control what, where, and when of the Holiday Season. The List includes visits to certain friends and family, attendance at specific activities, the sounds of Holidays in retail stores, and daydreams of warm fireplaces on cold winters nights. When we thought about The List earlier this year, our heads were filled with candy cane dreams and sugar plum fantasies. But The List is more than just a dream: The dream is real. Yet for some reason, that long list of to-dos doesnt seem so glorious anymore. Why not? Arent we excited about seeing all those AWOL family members, attending countless Holiday gatherings, and hearing carols in every shop? As we begin to put our Lists together, we are quickly learning that The List is more than just plain ol fun. The List also represents love, responsibility, and duty. Those of us who have a list (everyone) are beginning recognize that other people are counting on us this Holiday Season. And if people are counting on us, then it means that we are on someone elses List. Theres a spooky thought: Someone has included you and me on their Christmas List. Does it bother you to know that someone else has put you on their Christmas List? Better hurry and put them on your list, otherwise youll be embarrassed when you see them again. Not because they are bearing gifts and you are not, but because they will be ready to receive you and you might not be ready to receive them. Wow! We better get ready! So lets sit down, pull out the piece of paper or power up the smart phones and tablets, and begin making The List: #1. Love God. Wait a minute, we didnt talk about putting God on our List (let alone first). If we put God on our List, then it means that God has put each of us on the LORDS List. And if each of us is on Gods List, then it must mean that God is planning to visit us this Holiday Season. And if God is coming to visit...oh my! Am I ready? Just like the prophet Isaiah proclaimed: A voice cries out: “Clear the Lord’s way in the desert! Make a level highway in the wilderness for our God! (Isaiah 40:3) Get the point? Put God at the top of The List today. The Candy-canes and sugar plums will taste a whole lot better.
