Justice Mahmud Mohammed has today administered an oath of office to Bello Kawu (Esq), former Chief Registrar of Code of Conduct Tribunal at the Supreme Court complex, as FCT High Court Judge. The swearing-in involved four other newly appointed judges to fill the vacancy left. While delivering his speech, the Chief Justice of the Nigeria, Hon. Justice Mahmud Mohammed stated that an issue that is of great concern to him and that which he is committed to address during his tenure is the delay in the dispensation of Justice. He said, ‘‘an issue which is of great concern to me and one that I’m committed to addressing during my tenure, is the delay in the dispensation of justice and the resultant case backlog. He added; ‘‘the sobering reality is that if the number of pending cases continue to grow at their present rate, our children may not be able to initiate and conclude a lawsuit within their lifetime’’. The CJN said; in the light of this, he made Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) as cardinal objective of his tenure in adjudication. The Chief Justice admonished the newly appointed Judges, that as judicial officers, series of temptations will come their ways, but the ability to resist them will definitely stand them out and earned them reputation on the bench. He further warned that; otherwise, the National Judicial Council, which has the Constitutional powers to discipline Judicial Officers, will not spare any judge for any misconduct. The CJN employed the new Judges that their appointment is coming during an epoch in the development of the country’s democracy as another election year is just two months away. He urged them to be wary of nefarious characters who may try to test their integrity as judicial officers. However, the Chairman Code of Conduct Tribunal Justice Danladi Yakubu Umar and the management staff were in attendance, to identify with Justice Bello Kawu, who was before his swearing-in, the former Chief Registrar of the Tribunal. Ibraheem Al-hassan, Head, Press & Public Relations, Code of Conduct Tribunal.
