1948 ല്‍ റേഡിയല്‍ ടയര്‍ ആദ്യമായി നിര്‍മ്മിച്ച് വാഹനവിപണിയില്‍ തരംഗങ്ങള്‍ സൃഷ്ടിച്ച മിഷേല്‍ കമ്പനി ഏറ്റവും പുതിയ സാങ്കേതികതയുമായി എത്തുന്നു. “ട്വീല്‍” എന്നാണ്, ഇതിന്‍റെ പേര്. എന്താണ്, ട്വീല്‍? റോഡിലൊരു ആണി കിടന്നാല്‍ സ്വാഭാവികമായും ഡ്രൈവര്‍ക്ക് കാണാനാകില്ല, എന്നാല്‍ ഡ്രൈവര്‍ അറിയും. കാരണം അധികം വൈകാതെ വാഹനത്തിന്‍റെ ടയര്‍ പഞ്ചര്‍ ആകും. ഇത് പാതിരാത്രിയാണെങ്കിലോ? കുടുങ്ങിയതു തന്നെ. പഞ്ചറാകാത്ത ടയറുകള്‍ ഉല്‍പ്പാദിപ്പിക്കാന്‍ കഴിഞ്ഞിരുന്നെങ്കിലോ എന്നു പ്രാര്‍ത്ഥിക്കാത്തവരുണ്ടാകില്ല. എന്നാലിപ്പോള്‍ സന്തോഷിക്കാം, കാരണം ട്വീല്‍ എന്നത് ഇത്തരമൊരു കണ്ടു പിടിത്തത്തിന്‍റെ പേരാണ്. ടയര്‍ + വീല്‍ = ട്വീല്‍, ഇപ്പോള്‍ സംഭവം ഏതാണ്ട് മനസ്സിലായില്ലേ? അതേ വായു നിറയ്ക്കേണ്ടാത്ത വീലും ടയറും തമ്മില്‍ യോജിപ്പിച്ച് നിര്‍മ്മിക്കുന്നതാണ്, ട്വീല്‍ എന്ന സാങ്കേതിക വിദ്യ. വായു നിറയ്ക്കേണ്ടാത്തതു കൊണ്ട് ഇത് പഞ്ചറാവുകയുമില്ല. ട്വീലിന്റെ റോഡില്‍ സ്പര്‍ശിക്കുന്ന ഭാഗം ത്രെഡ് റബ്ബര്‍ കൊണ്ട് നിര്‍മ്മിച്ചതാണ്. എല്ലാ ഭാഗങ്ങള്‍ക്കും ഫ്ലെക്സിബിലിറ്റി ഉള്ളതു കൊണ്ട് കല്ലിലോ മറ്റോ തട്ടിയാല്‍ വളയുകയും പഴയതു പോലെ തന്നെ നിവരുകയും ചെയ്യും. അതുകൊണ്ടു തന്നെ ഇത് ഷോക്ക് അബ്സോര്‍ബറായും പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. 2005 ലെ അമേരിക്കന്‍ ഓട്ടോഷോയിലാണ്, ട്വീല്‍ പരിചയപ്പെടുത്തുന്നത്. അധികം വൈകാതെ ട്വീല്‍ വിപണിയിലുമെത്തും. കാര്‍ഷികാവശ്യങ്ങള്‍ക്കുള്ള വാഹനങ്ങളിലാണ്, ആദ്യമായി ട്വീല്‍ പരീക്ഷിച്ചു നോക്കുക എന്ന മിഷലിന്‍ കമ്പനി അറിയിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. സാധാരണ ടയറുകള്‍ പോലെതന്നെ കോര്‍ണറിങ് – ഹാന്‍ഡ്‍ലിങ് പ്രത്യേകത ട്വീലിനുമുണ്ട്. മാത്രവുമല്ല വാഹനങ്ങള്‍ക്കനുസരിച്ച് ഇതിന്, രൂപമാറ്റവുമാകാം. മറ്റൊന്ന് മെയിന്‍റനന്‍സ് ചിലവ് തീരെ ഇല്ലാ എന്നുള്ളതാണ്. ഗ്യാസ് നോക്കണ്ട, പഞ്ചര്‍ ഒട്ടിക്കണ്ട, പ്രഷര്‍ നോക്ക്കണ്ട, വീല്‍ ബാലന്‍സിങ് നോക്ക്കണ്ട… ട്വീല്‍ വീല്‍ വലിയ താമസമില്ലാതെ തന്നെ വിപണി പിടിച്ചടക്കുമെന്നു തന്നെ കരുതാം. He rose to become the chairman of Goodyear in the year 1940. 1904 - mountable rims were introduced that allowed drivers to fix their own flats. 1908 - Frank Seiberling invented grooved tires with improved road traction. 1910 - B.F. Goodrich invents longer life tires by adding carbon to the rubber. 1911 - Philip Strauss invents the first successful automobile tyre, which was a combination tyre and air filled inner tube. Strauss company the Hardman Tyre & Rubber Company marketed the tires. 1937 - B.F. Goodrich invents the first synthetic rubber tires and patents a substance called Chemigum 1948 - Michelin patents the radial tyre 1954 - first original equipment tubeless tyre fitted to the now defunct Packard.
