2 SCAVENGERS IN COURT FOR CONSTITUTING PUBLIC NUISANCE The police on Wednesday arraigned two scavengers, Musubau Sani, 22, and Abdullahi Lawan, 25, in Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja for constituting public nuisance. The accused persons, who have no fixed address, were arrested by a team of policemen on patrol. SP HussaIni Dodo, who led the team during a raid at a black spot in Mabushi, Abuja, arrested the accused persons on Aug. 4. Police prosecutor Christopher Johnson told the court that the accused were arrested and handed over to the police at Maitama Station, Abuja. According to Johnson, Sani was seen wandering about the street with a toy gun at about 5 a.m. thereby creating panic among members of the public. The prosecutor added that Lawan was also seen at the same time smoking a substance suspected to be Indian hemp openly. Johnson said the two accused persons were making life uncomfortable for members of the public and that the offence was contrary to Section 183 of the Penal Code. The accused persons both denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty. Senior Magistrate Folashade Oyekan granted them bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum. Oyekan said the sureties must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction and that each of them must be a civil servant not below Grade Level seven. She added that the sureties must also swear to an affidavit of means, and adjourned the matter till Aug. 25 for hearing
