2013-10-18 PANORAMA ALEMÃO in Salvador (31 October – 7 November 2013), Brasília (8 – 15 November 2013), Fortaleza (14 – 21 November 2013) and Porto Alegre (21 – 28 November 2013) German cinema currently has a major presence in the growing cinema market of Brazil: not only was a German focus programmed at the film festival in Rio de Janeiro and 40 German films and co-productions shown at the São Paulo International Film Festival, German cinema is also being presented in four other cities through PANORAMA ALEMÃO. After a successful debut last year with around 3,200 spectators and very positive audience reactions, 2013 will see German Films presenting ten new German feature films - national and international award-winners - in Salvador, Brasília, Fortaleza and Porto Alegre. Actor Ulrich Tukur (EXIT MARRAKECH, HOUSTON) and the directors Georg Maas (TWO LIVES) and Bastian Günther (HOUSTON) will introduce their films in person. Most of the films being shown in PANORAMA ALEMÃO had previously been programmed at the two most important Brazilian festivals in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. We would like to also give those Brazilian audiences outside of the major festival cities the chance to get to know contemporary German cinema in all of its diversity, says Mariette Rissenbeek, managing director of German Films. The diversity of genres, subjects and approaches is reflected in the film selection: PANORAMA ALEMÃO will open in Salvador (31 October – 7 November 2013) with the German Oscar® candidate for the Best Foreign Language Film TWO LIVES (ZWEI LEBEN, DE/NO, Zinnober Film, B&T Film) in the presence of the director Georg Maas. EXIT MARRAKECH by Caroline Link (Desert Flower Filmproduktion, Erftal Film, B.A. Produktion, MTM West, STUDIOCANAL), which was shown at the film festival in Toronto in September, will kick off the program in Brasília (8 – 15 November 2013). The film will be presented by the lead actor Ulrich Tukur, who can also be seen in the opening film HOUSTON (Lichtblick Media) in Fortaleza (14 – 21 November 2013). Director Bastian Günther will be introducing his work, which premiered at the respected Sundance Film Festival, in Fortaleza as well as Salvador and Brasília. The last stop on the PANORAMA ALEMĂO tour will be Porto Alegre (21 – 28 November 2013), opening there with THE GIRL WITH NINE WIGS (HEUTE BIN ICH BLOND) by Marc Rothemund (Goldkind Film). In addition, the program will show FINSTERWORLD by Frauke Finsterwalder (Walker+Worm Film, Lhasa Films), FORGET ME NOT (VERGISS MEIN NICHT) by David Sieveking (Lichtblick Media), SILENT SEA (MEERES STILLE) by Juliane Fezer (Julex Film), FREE FALL (FREIER FALL) by Stephan Lacant (Kurhaus Production), NOTHING BAD CAN HAPPEN (TORE TANZT) by Katrin Gebbe (Junafilm), and SUMMER OUTSIDE (DRAUSSEN IST SOMMER) by Friederike Jehn (zum Goldenen Lamm Filmproduktion). A selection of six nomimations and winners from the German Short Film Awards has also been programmed. The partners of German Films at this years festival are: Goethe-Institut Salvador and Porto Alegre, Goethe Centre Brasilia, German Embassy in Brazil, Mostra Internacional de Cinema São Paulo, Festival do Rio, Espaço Itaú de Cinemas Salvador, Porto Alegre and Brasília, IX Panorama Internacional Coise de Cinema Salvador as well as the Cinema Dragão do Mar - Fundação Joaquim Nabuco de Fortaleza. German Films organizes Festivals of German Films around the world with various partners to present new German feature films to film buyers, representatives of the media and local audiences and thus contribute to an improved reception and increasing level of awareness. The festivals give German producers and world sales agents the opportunity to analyze audience reactions to their films in various territories and often to sell a film after a successful screening.
