Monitor lizards are generally large lizards, although some can be as small as 20 cm (7.9 in) in length. The various species cover a vast area, occurring through Africa, the Indian Subcontinent, to China, down to Indonesia, the Philippines, New Guinea, Australia and islands of the Indian Ocean, and the South China Sea. The pygmy hog is an endangered species of small wild pig, previously spread across India, Nepal, and Bhutan, but now only found in Assam. Spider monkeys are New World monkeys. They are found in tropical forests of Central and South America, from southern Mexico to Brazil.
