2014. Here is is a little back story. After a few years of bow hunting and not having any luck I hung up the bow and grabbed a rifle in pursuit of elk. Getting tired of a few unethical rifle hunters every year. I decided to get serious about archery hunting so much that I even bought my wife a bow.... started scouting a wilderness area in search of a 300 class bull. Hiking into the area I scouted out on Sunday two days before season so I would be fresh after the 6 mile hike up hill for Tuesday. Monday morning around 430am a bear came in close to camp and let out a growl needless to say being by myself I peed just a little and could no longer sleep. Calling my dad and buddy in the morning to get a eta on when they would be up wensday neither had a idea of when or if they where coming up for sure. It made my decision to pack up camp Monday and hike back out to hunt the packwood instead a lot easier. After getting down the mountain and heading for the packwood I started to feel sick I brushed it off and decided to go hunt anyways Tuesday/opening morning rolling around and Im not feeling any better I make a push to go hunt. After only seeing a cow with twin calfs along with a lot of other people and not feeling well I headed home to recuperate. Wesnday comes and goes not much better then Thursday comes and im starting to feel better so I help my hunting buddy unpack his house so we can go hunting Friday. Now the hunt. Friday morning is here ! We head for a piece of state land in in the winston to start our hike to the top. After getting to the top we let a bugle out and boom coyotes blow up just above us thinking the area has been blown out we head out to a clearcut to see if we can glass anything we jump a elk in the cut we thought it was a cow but it was tough to see because it was over grown with weeds and alder. My buddy starts cow calling and elk is coming in on a string still thinking its a cow and at this point Im ready to just get blood on the ground. The elk steps out at 10 yards and its bull so I let a arrow fly and nothing thinking I missed at ten yard Im in disbelief the bull runs out to 45 yards so I let another arrow fly and just as I let it go he starts walking and I hit him in the hindquarter on the main artery and bloods Poors out and the bull runs off. After following the blood trail for 200 yards we here the bull pumping blood on on the grown and moving around so we wait 20 minutes after we heard the last little bit of noise we move in and my bull was laying there dead... found both my arrows the one first one I found was the arrow in his hindquarter and the second arrow I found was buried in his lungs just where I wanted it to go. Couldnt be happier with it
