2014 WASRC-PASMAE CONFERENCE & SPECIAL ANNUAL PATAG INSET WORKSHOP After the December 2010 PASMAE—West African Sub-Regional Chapter (WASRC) conference, the National Executive of the Performing Arts Teachers’ Association of Ghana (PATAG) in collaboration with WASRC-PASMAE wishes to announce our revitalization in a very vibrant way by inviting you to the 2014 WASRC PASMAE CONFERENCE & SPECIAL ANNUAL PATAG INSET WORKSHOP being organized under the auspices of the of the University of Education, Winneba, from 10th to 14th June, 2014. Our host will be the University of Education, Winneba’s Music Education Department situated in the School of Creative Arts—Centre of Excellence for arts teacher-preparation in sub-Saharan Africa. The arts have always served as the distinctive vehicle for discovering who we are. Providing ways of thinking as disciplined as science or math and as disparate as philosophy or literature, the arts are used by and have shaped every culture and individual on earth. They continue to infuse our lives on nearly all levels—generating a significant part of the creative and intellectual capital that drives our economy. The arts inform our lives with meaning every time we experience the joy of a well-remembered song, experience the flash of inspiration that comes with immersing ourselves in an artist’s sculpture, enjoying a sublime dance, learning from an exciting animation, or being moved by a captivating play (NCCAS 2013). In light of this, the 2014 PASMAE-PATAG Conference is being held jointly for educators in all the five arts disciplines—DANCE, MEDIA ARTS, MUSIC, THEATRE & VISUAL ARTS for the first time to offer participants the opportunity to discuss and winnow down on the overarching common values and expectations for learning in the arts that will continue to nurture artistically literate citizenry. The Conference will comprise plenary, workshop, paper, seminar, performances and poster sessions. The conference programme will be arranged in such a way as to allow two or more activities to run concurrently. Abstracts are invited from scholars who can contribute to the theme of the conference.
