2015: APC panics over G7 governors By WILLY EYA Ahead of 2015 general elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been thrown into confusion over the non-committal attitude of the G7 governors. A source told Daily Sun that the top leadership of the APC was being frustrated with the non-committal attitude governors. The governors in the group include those of Kano, Rabiu Kwankwaso; Sokoto, Aliyu Wammako; Jigawa, Sule Lamido; Adamawa, Murtala Nyako and Niger, Babangida Aliyu. The rest are Kwara, Abdulfatah Ahmed and Rivers, Rotimi Amaechi. The source said the APC was worried that despite the apparent disaffection of the governors in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), they were still clinging to it. He said the APC leadership started having sleepless nights after the recent visit of the governors to the country home of former president Olusegun Obasanjo who told them point blank that they should not jump the ship of the PDP. According to the source, the G7 governors went to Obasanjo’s house hoping to get his support for their recalcitrant position but were surprised with the admonition of the elder statesman that they should not leave the PDP. He said the APC was afraid that the governors might have a change of heart after the visit to Obasanjo. “My brother, there is trouble in the house of the APC. What is happening now is not what people expected. Immediately after the formation of the APC, many had thought that the G7 governors would join it en-masse but that has not happened. “Nobody expected that up till now, the G7 governors are still hesitant to join the APC. What that means is that the APC cannot win more than its traditional states in the next general election and that is not the intention of those who fought for the mega party.” He said part of the reasons the G7 governors had been hesitant to join the opposition party was the fear of the frustration they might face in the hands of those who were in control of the party structures in their respective states.
