2nd STATION: JESUS IS MADE TO BEAR HIS CROSS John 19:16 - They took Jesus, therefore, and He went out, bearing His own cross, to the place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha. Each of us encounters the cross – physical, mental, spiritual – in our daily lives. Sometimes we try to avoid it, for it seems a weight impossible to bear. At those times, let us remember Jesus’ words, ‘shoulder my yoke and learn from me.’ At the foot of the hill, we see Jesus struggle physically even to start his journey. We hear nothing, for he does not complain. Rather, he trusts that the Father will give him the strength to endure the cross. The Christian journey is characterised by struggle and perseverance and here our Lord teaches us to trust and inspires us to persevere. Lord, I struggle. I struggle even to pick up my cross, for I look at my own resources but I am blind to your presence there. Then, I am afraid to walk with my cross because, lacking trust in you, I fear what lies beyond my sight. Grant me the grace to turn to you before all else. Help me to trust that you will always give me the necessary quiet grace and strength to bear my cross. Then, Lord, ‘keep thou my feet; I do not ask to see the distant scene; one step enough for me’.
