U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Protects Monsanto (5:12-6:55) Why did FDA abdicate its responsibility to protect the American people? • FDA is composed of smart people with conflict of interests, supporting THEIR academic needs, THEIR financial needs; not what makes sense. • President H.W. Bush instructed the White House to promote biotechnology. • FDA created a position for Michael Taylor, former Monsanto’s Attorney. Michael Taylor was in charge of FDA’s policies when GMO’s policy was created. Taylor then became Monsanto’s Vice President. Under the Obama Administration, Taylor was put back as the head of the FDA’s U.S. Food Safety (Can we puke now???!!!) • FDA’s scientists’ overwhelming consensus is that GMO IS INHERENTLY DANGEROUS; that they may create allergies, toxins, new diseases, and nutritional problems.
