My 6-year-old daughter has Chiari I and a syrinx. (Scoliosis was her only symptom, which led us to the diagnosis.) She just had her decompressive craniectomy and laminectomy on Wednesday. Her NS did not feel it was necessary to open the dura; he said it was pulsing to his satisfaction. She was discharged Friday night. Shes doing great: already doing light walking, playing, and helping herself eat. She feels a little bit dizzy, she says, and her neck is stiff. But she hasnt even needed any controlled pain medication since the day of her surgery. Shes been only on Ibuprofen since yesterday. My only concern in this moment is that shes constipated.
