36. Digging Deeper: His Mission Emgwali ~ Episode 1 Even before they reached Peelton, the two young Reverends have heard about the displaced people. They have also heard that many of these families would like to go with them to Mgwali. When they arrived, they met with the displaced converts, some of Rev Sogas family members, his mom and his brother Festiri, among them. They were all so excited to see Rev Soga and Johnston. They tried to ascertain from the community whether they wanted to go with them to Mgwali. Almost all of them wanted to go to Mgwali. Although they were treated well at the Peelton Mission, they still yearned to have their own Mission station... with their own Ministers... and a place they could call home. A total of 172 people expressed their willingness to go to Mgwali i.e. 36 males, 48 females and 88 children. After this the two young ministers, together with the converts, proceeded to Mgwali. They were accompanied by Mr Charles Brownlee who had an interesting title, the Diplomatic Commissioner Amongst the Ngqikas i.e. some sort of intermediary between the Ngqikas and the British colonial government.
