365 DAYS OF PRAYER FOR AMERICA Day 299 If PRAYER is changing me, PRAYER can change AMERICA!! PRAYER AND PRAISE Prayer and praise are twins birthed from the depths of the human spirit by the unction of the HOLY SPIRIT! To define “unction” we understand that it is a religious or spiritual fervor, or expression of such fervor: a special anointing for consecration or healing and wholeness. This happens to us individually, as the HOLY SPIRIT speaks into our spirit the consolation that we are GOD’S children. “The SPIRIT Himself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God” (Romans 8:16). “Bears witness” is a Greek word used in Scripture as “testify or testifies; and bares record.” Also, notice: “But when the COMFORTER is come, whom I will send unto you from the FATHER, even the SPIRIT of truth, which proceeds from the FATHER, HE shall testify of ME” (John 15:26). The fervor of anointing from the HOLY SPIRIT brings into my spirit a passion of devotion to GOD that is expressed in prayer and praise! E.M. Bounds writes in the Power of Prayer: “The SPIRIT of devotion fills the hearts of GOD’S children and characterizes their worship. The inspiration and center of their joyful devotion is the holiness of GOD. That holiness of GOD claims their attention and inflames their devotion!” Listen to the angelic chant in the courts of Heaven: “Day and night they never stop saying: Holy, Holy, Holy is the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY, Who was, and is, and is to come” (Revelation 4:8).
