4/1/1915 Commencement of Gloucester and Worcester Brigade - TopicsExpress

4/1/1915 Commencement of Gloucester and Worcester Brigade Training (until 23rd). The Brigade War Diary reported that much good work was done over this three week period, especially in improving inter-communication. Edith Creak described the four battalions having sham fights and a route march, and on 8th January going to do night operations. However training in general was hampered by inclement weather and a serious epidemic of influenza. The large number of men in empty houses in the Danbury district was considered to have contributed to this (rather than in the hutted camps that were being constructed for the 4th and 6th Gloucesters). Musketry was carried out whenever the weather allowed shooting to take place, and a considerable improvement in rapid loading was made. Also drafts arriving from Reserve Units appeared to have had very little training.
