(4). F.D.R.; Oscar Pistorius; Marlee Matlin; are these and millions of other persons with disabilities truly "dis-abled" or merely "differently"-abled? From a leadership standpoint, is there a substantive distinction to the terminology we use when speaking about those who are physically or mentally different from ourselves? Is referring to a person as "handicapped" as ignorant and offensive as referring to someone by an equally derogatory ethnic or racial slur? How can one possibly intend for the term "handicapped" to be used other than in a manner that depicts an image of inferior; or less-than; or "deformed?" How could we "able-bodied" persons ever expect to follow the leadership of someone who carries the descriptive title of being "handicapped" or even "DIS-abled?" 500 word limit (2 double-spaced typewritten pages) 4 point max
