4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013 NEW We went here twice during our stay. I wasnt going to write a review because it was just decent food and fairly cheap so... a normal expectation. However the second time we got the chicken tandoori. It was outstanding. Also the plain naan were very good. Other dishes were just OK - we tried paneer, daal, korma. I would go again to look for other gems. You cant go wrong paying $5-6 for food+drink for two people. The staff were friendly and I liked the setup - local style, open doors, wooden hut - if you prefer A/C and the wait staff wearing French maid outfits then its not your kind of place, dont get upset about it. I have no regret. Stuck in a shady little street, the restaurant is owned by a smiling Indian. This guy gives good vibrations even if you can be a bit worried at first by pictures taken of customers to add on facebook. The fact anyway is that I have eaten one of the best tandoori in Laos. What i love is when you taste different herbs and spices and not only an undistinguished mixture. The chicken was melting in my mouth. And, for a good price. So, a place not to miss ! Everyone is entitled to their opinion, obviously. But I wish to clarify that it is most definitely NOT a total dump. Vientiane has a whole range of restaurants, some are meticulously clean, and others are literally a noodle shop on the side of the road. Jamils is somewhere in between. But what it lacks in matching crockery and prep time. It makes up for with great meals and delicious drinks. Ive not once felt I was at an unclean table, I have not noticed any feral dogs in the building. There is one dog, who I assume belongs to the owner and this dog is very friendly and clean. I have communicated well enough with all staff in English and have had great conversations with the owner, who is a lovely man that enjoys seeing happy customers. Its a simple restaurant, and that adds to the comfort of eating there. The atmosphere in the place is so fun and easygoing. The owners young son is often there and he enjoys having a laugh with customers and puts a smile on your face every time. I have lived in Vientiane for just over a year now, I can honestly say that this place is fantastic. The food is always delicious, and the staff and owner are friendly, helpful and always happy to hear how your experience at the restaurant is going. Plus the prices are very reasonable. If you havent been before, and are looking for a place with affordable and delicious food, please give Jamil Zahid Punjabi restaurant a chance! Its yum as! Im always keen to have dinner here, and will continue to do so for the duration of my time in Vientiane. Keep up the good work Zahid! I will no doubt be seeing you next week sometime for number 13, number 37, and a Mango Lassi! We wanted a quick kebab after wandering the nearby shopping malls and found this because of tripadvicer. We waited 30+ minutes, food was not even edible for the Soi dogs wandering in. Not sure who was running this joint, no one appeared in control. Its hard to imagine from the visuals how this place could ever been a star. Ate Noors later on the river, much better, although thats not saying anything at all.
