#4123 Everyone is joining teams and clubs. I was once on a team. A varsity team. I loved the sport, except, the team overall... is not very good. Some people couldnt serve, the coach was pretty bad, and yet, people still wanted to join. Everyone wanted to be the captain, everyone wanted to be some position. I, too, raised my hand for the position. But in my eyes, everyone wanted the captain position for one main reason: to put the accomplishment on the resume. The captain that was chosen displayed good job I suppose. He/She had skills and he/she had the experience of of being coached. I, on the other hand, had no experience in being coached nor was I that bad at the sport. However what shocks me was how the captain would not play against me because I wasnt good enough. The captain did not even bother bringing the people who cant serve, to play in the competition. They cant even serve! I am choosing only the best people to play! The captain clearly, gave up on those supposedly failures and focused on how to bring the best out of (only) the best. Last year, I stand there in the gym, dumb founded, to see how the other team were progressing so smoothly. Our team seem to live only for the purpose of looking good for colleges. I stare, where was that glory? where was the screams of saying I got your backs? where was the yelps and pride the team carried? Where was that moment when you feel like you are an asset to the team? Just because we are considered failures, isnt our failure more of an obstacle to overcome rather than a permanent sign of weakness? This applies to everyone, from Varsity teams to the Robotics team. From the Orchestra to clubs. Even the president of the school I believe. The coachs job ( or conductor, or teacher, or whatever experienced person there is) is to teach and point out your faults. The captains job ( or main leader of whatever club or extracurricular activity you have) can have a role in assisting the coach to teach but the main role is to pull those failures to overcome that obstacle. To make the whole group feel powerful and strong, and feel how each and every member lived for this moment. Haha. I am sorry if this is a bit too dramatic. I honestly, prefer a mediocre captain who makes each and everyone of us play our very best rather than a captain who plays well but only cares about the good players of the team. You know? everyone has something special inside them. Its the captains job to determine their specialty. Thats why they should be called a leader. Again, sorry if this was too dramatic. Sorry if this seemed like a weird post. After all, its just a small confession I wanted to make to myself.
