43 years ago today three young punks who had hitchhiked to Big Sur for beach camping headed to the market for a gallon of Red mountain. What they found was one hundred plus young people gathered around an old panel truck listening to the radio. Many were sobbing because the word had just come out that Hendrix was dead. We got someone to buy two gallons of the red for us. Shared one with the people then hitched a ride back to our beach cave and polished off the other. I think it was my first time dealing with the loss of someone that I knew I would miss. Still listening and loving his music today.
