The recent incident occurred on 11/December 2014 at 12:07 am, where a lady patient who had been brought to the hospital triggered this protest. The Doctor on duty was a minute late to attend the lady patient been brought at midnight, with no second thought of repercussions, one of the patient attendants took off his jacket and physically assault the doctor who had just enter the room, doctors informed the incident based on the footage recorded in the CCTV. Nevertheless, the lady patient received the medical service later from a different doctor on the same night, one among the Doctors informed. Weighing heavily on this as a threat to life’s security and considering the past events too, the medical fraternity including the nursing staff, paramedical staff are stressing on the demand of full fledge security in the RKM campus. “We want to make known to the public, the lawmakers and the police department of the existing hostile environment that surrounds the medical fraternity of our state. This is not an isolated event that occurred only in RKM hospital. It has happened in every hospital in the capital for the last few years,” remarked one of the doctors in RKM. “We demand the lawmakers to be sensitised, they should come to know that in such kind of a hostile environment, there is no possibility to give our sincerity, dedication and appropriate clinical care to the patients,” the doctors said. The Doctors voiced their demand to the Capital District Administration as well as to the Mission authority. They also want the State Government to frame strict laws and make them known to the public which will likely curb this uncivilized act of the people. Police outpost was erected just outside the emergency block of the hospital recently but later it was removed. Police sources informed that FIR has been registered and the hunt for the offender is on. The medical service was completely stopped from 12 noon today as an act of unity and solidarity to the call of justice by the hospital staff. OPD (Out Patient Department) was completely shut, no emergency cases reported during the day and the packed campus was totally free from vehicles. However, the Doctors have informed that if at all there are emergency cases during these prohibited hours, medical service will be provided. The Doctors have appealed the public to bear with them during the ongoing protest.
