5 1/2 hr drive home from the Lancaster Classic has the radio off and my mind replaying the past 3 days in my head. And two things that stand out to me the most are this . 1- yes Rob Kaufhold puts on arguably the best tournament each year because HE IS A ARCHER himself !! I dont believe its because LAS is the leader in supply , but because Rob understands the sport at its core. The blood cell of competitor in all of us. He draws that out in his unique tournament format. He also is a giver and truly gets the concept of hosting an event. Rob and Carol will start tomorrow in their planning on how to SERVE the archers that attend next years Classic. I know this because in the heat and craziness of todays final matches I pulled Rob aside and he told me oh yeah Im already thinking of how to do it better next year . Never satisfied and a true desire to make ever archer from your top pros in the world to the youth JOAD kids feel loved , cared about and welcome. Hats of to the LAS crew and Kaufhold family. 2- I witnessed with my own eyes a man who will go down as one of the greatest archers this sport has ever had, show true genuine humility. As team mates and friends Jesse Broadwater and Kendall Woody were going head to head to see who would take on Chris Perkins for the Championship. The final arrows were released and when so many would be shouting and fist pumping with joy. In my camera lens I watched Jesses eyes almost tear up with disappointment that Kendalls arrow was just the slightest out of the X. Jesse had just beat Kendall for a chance to win the tournament and he was heartbroken. Jesse turned to Kendall and said I really wanted you to win this . And believe me when I say that I read a lot of emotions and character traits through the 3 view finder I spend my life behind! This was as authentic as I have ever witnessed!! Jesse was not going to let Kendall win , but by God he wanted so bad for his friend to BEAT him. Jesse Broadwater you my friend are a class act and moments like that are why I do what I do for this sport. Congrats again to Chris , you shot your tail off and earned the win. And Kendall for #catchingfire my BIG #mockingJay BULLDOG ! Until we meet again friends ....
