5 December for Father of the Thai Nation! Long Live His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the present king of Thailand. A brief Biography of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej: Strength of the Land is the meaning of Bhumibol Adulyadej, Incomparable Power His Majesty the King was born on Monday the 5th of December 1927, at Mount Auburn Hospital, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, U.S.A., being the third and youngest child of Their Royal Highness Prince Mahidol of Songkla and his commoner wife Mom Sangwan (later HRH Princess Srinagarindra, the Princess Mother). Later on he and his family moved to Lausanne, Switzerland for studying. After, His Majesty returned home to Thailand in 1951, he began what has become his way of life - traveling throughout the year to the provinces and rural areas of the kingdom to visit his people, talk to them and, perhaps even more important, listen to them. He learns first hand of their needs and their problems and then sets about trying to find a way of giving immediate help; later these problems are studied in depth to find a permanent solution or way of assistance. His Majesty the King deserves to be called a “paternal monarch” for his great devotion and unbounded love toward his subjects. He is sometimes referred to by his subjects as Por Luang, royal father. He has spent his life working for the benefit of his people, who are all his “children.” The close relationship between him and his subjects truly reflects the family tradition in Thai society. Everywhere he goes throughout Thailand, people have gathered to see him.
