.5-M views, 8,178 likes COMMENTS ON FACEBOOK POST AMUSE, TOUCH RODY DUTERTE By Manny Pinol Comments made by the followers of this page on a simple Facebook post titled You Cannot Escape from Your Destiny I wrote two days ago made Davao City Mayor Rody Duterte laugh and at some point emotional as he read the pleadings of ordinary people for him to run for President and save the country. Amazed at the number of people who read the article in a little over 24 hours, I opened my laptop and showed Mayor Duterte the comments made by followers of the Facebook page mannypinol last night during the anniversary of a favorite piano bar of the mayor in downtown Davao City. He laughed out loud when he read the comment of Jocelyn Tesoro who said that the Filipino people now are left with four Choices for Philippine President: a. Corrupt b. Liar c. Greedy d. DUTERTE. But he cupped his face and turned pensive and emotional when he saw the messages posted by ordinary people, especially overseas workers, who begged him to run for President and save the country. A message from a Alister Sajulla dsaid: Pag tumakbo ka mayor for pres.uuwi kami mga ofw para lang bomoto sayo gogogo na mayor katulad mo ang kilangan ng ating bansa. (If you run for president mayor, we the OFWs will come home to vote for you. The country needs somebody like you.) Another poster said he had never voted in the past because he had lost faith and trust in government but that he would register as a voter right away if Duterte will run for President. Kya Mr.duterte 2makbo po kau as PRESIDENT pero nasa inyo po yan bxta isipin nyo nlang po ung panlalait at pang aalispusta sa sti n kya sir duterte WE BELIEVE YOU you cannot escape your REAL destiny People needs you. Still another message offered to donate his land for a bigger cemetery for criminals who he said will surely be eradicated under the Duterte presidency. Roy Suemitsu pag c mayor ma presidente donate ko yuta para lub-ngan sa mga kreminal. Mayor Duterte read almost all of the comments, from the inane to the sublime, including one posted by a Bernz Lapinid Gamulskie who said that Dutertes courage was only good for Davao City. But what apparently touched Mayor Duterte as we both scrolled the almost 1,000 comments on the article were the pleadings of ordinary people for him to save the country from criminals. Dennis Panganiban posted: Mayor, this is not about you and your inadequacies(as you usually say you aint good enough). its about the people who needs you. please reconsider and make the sacrifice. hear the clamor, not only from the people of Davao but also of the whole country. the more you dismiss and decline the idea, the more persistent the people will be to make you accept. Dont think of this as an offer, think of this as your fate and destiny. Hear the people and heed their call. As I scrolled the comments up and down and pointed to Mayor Duterte the messages of the ordinary people who said that they would only trust government again if Duterte becomes President, I noticed that there were moments when he became very pensive. When I folded my laptop, I saw him take a deep breath and return to his seat. Will he run? Will he take up the challenge? Will he listen to the voices of the people? I honestly could not be certain yet. What is certain though is I have done my part in sharing with him the dreams, desires, fears, hope and aspirations of a large number of Filipinos. (Photos caption: Mayor Duterte reads the comments in my Facebook page, then later pulls a chair and we are joined by former Davao del Norte Congressman Tonyboy Floreindo, a known VP Binay ally. Mayor Duterte later turned pensive as he read the messages from ordinary people begging that he run for President of the Philippines.)
