5. Not everyone can breastfeed. Oh mamas... please read that again. Not every woman can breastfeed. And when you are not able to breastfeed, or choose not to breastfeed, or dont have the opportunity to breastfeed, it stirs up a shit-ton of feelings and dumps them on your head. I couldnt breastfeed my first son, and it broke my heart. I still dont feel like I belong in the breastfeeding community sometimes, and Ive nursed Ben for a YEAR now. Nursing mamas, please keep your formula-feeding sisters in mind when you do your touchdown dance. Or when you complain about leaking or a baby who constantly grabs your boobs. Or when you alleviate your own exhaustion and frustration by telling another mom that she just didnt try hard enough at breastfeeding. You have so much to be proud of, but be grateful. Be grateful. And.... Shes absolutely right when you make comments: This is BEST for my child so Ill go through it all. OR Whew Ive made it SO excited. OR ANOTHER I will feed in public if I want! I get it but I was that one person who was dead set on feeding...did everything right...and couldnt continue. Frankly, it highlights the thought, My body is BROKEN. There are people who couldnt and when that is the case it is SUCH a touchy subject. For that first little bit after I had to withdraw... I fought depression. It is a very, very real thing that I got through but I WISH other moms wouldnt have to go through the same thing. Hide the status from someone if you know it or be careful to word it that EVERY mom is great no matter how she feeds her child. Honestly, we are, dont forget that!
