5 November 1605-Guy Fawkes is arrested before he can execute the Gunpowder Plot and destroy Parliament. 1688-Commence Glorious Revolution; William of Orange lands at Brixham at the invitation of Parliament to lead a rebellion against his father-in-law, King James II, thus putting the funk in dysfunctional family relationships. 1831-Nat Turner is tried, convicted and sentenced to death for leading a slave rebellion. 1862-President Lincoln relieves General McClellan of command of the Union Army of the Potomac for the second and last time. Lincoln has just concluded a tour of the Union forces outside of Antietam, where they have remained encamped since McClellan let Lee slip away after the battle. Disgusted with McClellans constant whining about the vast number of enemy troops always in front of him, his rank insubordination, and his inability to commit the army to full battle, Lincoln tells McClellan get you shit and get out! 1914-World War I; France declares war on the Ottoman Empire. 1940-FDR defeats Republican Wendell Wilkie, becoming the first, and last person to win three consecutive Presidential elections. 1942-Cease Battle of El Alamein; General Montgomery defeats Field Marshal Rommels Afrika Corps. 1946-JFK is elected to the House. 1956-Continue Operation Musketeer; UK and France invade Egypt at Port Said; the 3rd Battalion of the British Parachute Regiment drops at El Gamil Airfield, clearing the area and establishing a secure base for incoming support aircraft and reinforcements. 1986 – USS Rentz (FFG-46), USS Reeves ( CG-24) and USS Oldendorf (DD-972) visit Qingdao (Tsing Tao) China — the first US Naval visit to China since 1949. 2006-Former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein is sentenced to death by hanging for crimes against humanity.
