6 Uses for Baking Soda As a Kitchen Medicine 1. Isotonic Drink Make this mixture for rehydration, for example after diarrhoea or endurance sports. The baking soda delays the lactic acid, which is the body’s waste product of tired muscles from physical effort. In a large cup mix 1 tablespoon of castor sugar (dissolves better), 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 3/4 teaspoon of baking soda. Add to the mixture 1/4 glass of water, mix and top up with lemonade. Experiment the dosage according to your personal preference. 2. Tooth Powder This tooth powder is good for routine oral hygiene, refreshing breath and whiten teeth. Mix equal parts of sea salt and baking soda and store in a jar. When you want to use it apply a small amount into your hand and dip a damp toothbrush into it. Brush your teeth as usual. Put 1/2 cup of baking soda in the bath. The alkalinity of baking soda in tepid bath helps to sooth these skin irritations. 4. Bath Bombs These are good for itchy skin. Mix in a bowl 500g baking soda, 250g citric acid and few drops of essential oil of your choice. Add water just enough to make it hold together. Shape into a ball or press into a mould.
