69 years ago, we lost FDR. One of our greatest Presidents and true champion of the working class, whose policies still allow millions of our fellow Americans to live, work and retire in dignity. With the firm understanding that necessitous men are not free men, Roosevelt was determined that America should pursue what he called, the Four Freedoms — “Freedom of Speech, Freedom of worship, Freedom from want, Freedom from fear.” (Read more about the Four Freedoms here: tinyurl/nbzd2wp) In the column of freedom from want and fear, Roosevelt proposed an Economic Bill of Rights for all Americans. If he had lived through his 4th term, we would have seen his Second Bill of Rights guaranteeing education, work for the unemployed, a living wage, universal health care, freedom from unfair competition and monopolies, and a more humane, egalitarian nation come to fruition. Roosevelt fundamentally transformed America, but his work is not done... in fact, weve gone backwards. Thanks to Reagans counter-revolution against the New Deal, income inequality is worse now than in the first Gilded Age. Time to reclaim this nation for the working class majority. Time for a New, New Deal.
