7 Amazing Reasons to Fast the Days of Dhul Hijjah The greatest days of the year are upon us, the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah, days that are more beloved to Allah than the days of Ramadan, as the Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu alayhi wasallam) informed us. Set your intention from NOW to fast as many days as possible and increase your deeds, including Quran, thikr (particularly takbeer, tahmeed, tahleel), praying at night, charity, etc. If you feel that you didnt do enough in Ramadan, this is even more of a reason to increase your deeds in Dhul Hijjah, as these days are more rewarding and more preferred to Allah than any other day. You can also fast your missed Ramadan days and attain both rewards inshaaAllah (see #7). 7 reasons (of many): 1. These are the ten greatest days of the dunya (world), more beloved to Allah and more magnified in rewards than the month of Ramadan. [Saheeh al-Jaami 1144] 2. Your sins for two years are forgiven -- the previous year and the coming year -- if you fast the 9th day, the Day of Arafah. [Saheeh Muslim 1162] 3. The duaa of the fasting person will not be refused. [al-Silsilat al-Saheeh 1797] 4. Whoever fasts one day for the sake of Allah, Allah will remove his face seventy years’ distance from the Fire. [Muslim 2/808] 5. Whoever fasts one day seeking the pleasure of Allah, if that is the last day of his life, he will enter Paradise. [Ahmad, Saheeh At-Targheeb 1/412] 6. (Fasting will say) “O Lord, I prevented him from his food and physical desires during the day, so let me intercede for him.” [Musnad Ahmad 2/174] 7. If you owe any days from Ramadan, you can make up the missed days during these first days of Dhul Hijjah, including the Day of Arafah, and be rewarded for making up your missed fast as well as fulfilling the virtues of the Day of Arafah inshaaAllah. Dhul Hijjah begins at Maghrib time on Thursday or Friday (25th or 26th of September). The Day of Arafah (which you should absolutely fast) is Friday, Oct 3rd or Saturday, Oct 4th, and the day after that is Eid ul-Adha. This status will be updated tomorrow depending on the sighting of the moon inshaAllah. Share with your friends and family and encourage your loved ones to fast and increase in good deeds, especially during these blessed days. Set your intention from now to fast so that Shaytan doesnt lead you to laziness later. No excuses, no regrets!
