7 little known facts about me: 1. I was born the same year as my older brother. He was born in February and I was born in December of 1973. Yes, we were born the same year as Hip-Hop... and a prophecy was fulfilled. LOL 2. I have Tijuana adventure stories. I once got shaken down by a police officer there who was trying to arrest me for peeing on the street. 3. In the early 90s my crew and I had a radio show called A State of Yo on KRUI college radio in Iowa City. 4. When I was around 11, a couple of my brothers and I were on the RTD when it got hijacked by an angry gangbanger. We were the only ones he let off the bus. 5. When I was about 13, all the kids on the block confronted the local bully. My brothers and I trapped him riding his bike on our block and we let all the local kids he had bullied confront him face to face. They would say stuff like, You took my lunch money over and over! and You stuck up my mom!, and then they got as many licks in as they wanted. He was around 17 and all the other kids were younger than us so their blows probably didnt hurt him too bad, but he started crying and trying to run away. We socked him up pretty good and let every kid have their turn, even the little ones. Then we chased him off the block. 6. Im a pretty good writer. I was accepted to the University of Iowa Writers Workshop in college. Think Frank Conroy, Kurt Vonnegut, Sandra Cisnero, T. Coraghessan Boyle, Phillip Toth, Raymond Carver & John Irving. All good, but like Sandra, I immediately sussed that this was not a race-friendly collective. They basically told me I was too black. Too strong? No thank you, prestigious insititution. 7. My brother threw me out the living room window on my 7th (or was it 10th?) birthday. I was probably being an ass.
