8/10/2014 - This week has been a good week for Mandy. She had very little nausea and had a bit more strength than last week. On Tuesday, Mandy was able to attend freshman orientation on Tuesday. Even though she wont be able to attend school for at least the first semester, she wanted to meet all of her teachers and see where her classes are. It was from 9:00 until 2:00 and she made it through the entire day but it exhausted her. After she got home, she crashed hard and slept the rest of the day. Thursday - the entire family took Andrew to his follow up appointment and then we went school shopping. Andrews appointment went well but it is still too early to tell if the surgery worked. He goes back in 6 weeks for a hearing check. We will know more at that time. Thursday night Mandys sister (Brittany) and our family friend (Karen) arrived from Texas. It was nice to see them for a few days. This will probably be the last time we will see Brittany until Christmas. She will be returning to College Station next week for another semester at A&M. Friday - Mandys home bound teacher stopped by the house for an introduction and to explain how home bound will work. Home bound is what her schooling is called while she is medically unable to attend regular school. She will have one teacher come to the house twice a week for 2 1/2 hours each time (5 hrs a week total). He will bring her homework and give her instruction for all of her classes. We are a bit nervous with how the process will work. Mandy has worked very hard for her grades and she doesnt want to get behind. She is currently enrolled in Spanish 2 and Advanced Geometry and her home bound teacher said that he doesnt know Spanish and isnt very good at math. We might be asking for a little bit of help from our friends that excel in these two subjects. Saturday - The family played on the lake and hung out with Grandma & Grandpa. Mandy didnt actually swim but she hung out with everybody the entire time we were on the lake. Sunday - Today is the day that Brittany and Karen will head back to Texas. It is also the day the Mandy and I must head back to Memphis. It has been wonderful to be home which makes this trip so much harder. She will have her port accessed tonight for the first time (while she is awake). She will get hooked up to fluids and then tomorrow morning she is scheduled to meet with the doctor, have a spinal with chemo, get admitted to the hospital and begin her last high dose of methotrexate. If all goes well we should be able to return home by Wednesday or Thursday. We pray for safe travels for Brittany and Karen as well as Mandy and her mom. We also pray that The Lord wraps his arms around Mandy this week and offers her comfort, love and His most powerful healing hands.
