8 thousand years before the war of conquest and before the invasion of the Andals, the land of Westeros was invaded by an unknown evil to the North. They were known as "The Others", who were able to reanimate the dead. Kingdom after kingdom fell, and each deceased body gave birth to a walking corpse. The First men were pushed to the brink of destruction. One man, known as the "Last Hero" took a small group to seek out the "Children of the Forest", beings which native to Westeros before the invasion of the First Men who knew old magic that could be the solution to ending the invasion of the undead army. Fact from fiction? What is truly known? As the group grew smaller and each met his death, the "Last Hero" was on the run from the Others who rode atop giant ice spiders nearly the size of a direwolf. They knew what his purpose was, and it is said that he barely escaped the persuit, and with the help of the Children of the Forest, defeated the dead army. With that, the Wall was created to keep out any danger that was beyond it. History turned to legend, and legend turned to myth. And such events became nothing more than stories to frighten children. Summer is coming to an end. The day grows shorter, with the coming night fast approaching. The Nights Watch is weak, and will continue to be as the civil war wages on. Do you pity the deceased? Robb Stark, Robert Baratheon, and many others? To be quite honest, I think it a mercy. I pity the living. For no one gave greater effort to aid the Nights Watch than the Starks, the oldest of many houses who have been in Westeros since the First Men, who have fought an evil unknown to many. Winter is coming.
