8000 yatris leave for Amarnath cave, 51000 have darshan so far SRINAGAR : A new batch of about 8,000 yatris, including women and sadhus, left Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps for the holy Amarnath cave shrine, where more than 51000 yatris have had darshan of the self made ice-shivlingam during the first four days of pilgrimage. The yatris begam their journey towards the cave shrine since early this morning despite cloudy weather and possibility of rain or thundershowers, a yatra official said. He said 3,578 pilgrims, including 544 women and 128 sadhus, who had come from different parts of the country, left Nunwan base camp for the cave shrine, 48 km from Pahalgam. Majority of the yatris were covering the first 16 km of the yara by the vehicles upto Chandanwari, the last motorable halting station before starting foot journey on traditional yatra route. Meanwhile,the pilgrims who had night halt at different places on the route also began their journey towards the shrine this morning. He said 4,326 yatris also left Baltal base camp early this morning for the darshan. They included 800 women and 20 sadhus. So far 51,291 pilgrims have had the darshan of the ice-shivlingam in the cave shrine commencement the start of the 55-day-long pilgrimage from June 28 on both tracks. Majority of them have left for their homes after darshan while others were visiting different tourist places in the valley, the official added. (AGENCIES)
