A Beaumont church showered random acts of kindness on strangers around Southeast Texas for 24 hours this Easter weekend. They started at 2 p.m. Friday and continued until 2 p.m. Saturday. Saturday morning, they headed to the gas station. Wearing t-shirts with the words do something on the front, members of Harvest for Lost Souls Church surprised Southeast Texans at the pump with free gas. Im thankful that God has helped me, said Bobby Owens, as a church member filled his tank with ten dollars worth of gas. I just dont believe it. I just dont believe it, said Yvonne Savoy, after receiving her random act of kindness. A big help in the face of rising gas prices. Gas is very expensive. Im going back and forth from work, and bringing my daughter to school every day, so it helps me a lot, said Sandra Mason. It really helps. They are really a blessing. Every tank helps, believing in the Lord helps, having people like them helping, its awesome, said Chad Barry. Lisa and Jeff Boler, leaders at Harvest for Lost Souls Church, say its all about helping the community. They were so surprised and they asked us, is this really for real? Are yall just doing this for no reason? What strings are attached? And we said, there are none, we just want to bless you, said Lisa Boler. Everybody could use some help these days, right? Jeff Boler asked a driver pulled up next to a gas pump. Right, absolutely! she agreed. Giving something and wanting nothing in return, something people say they dont see often. Never, Im 56 and I know it never happens. No maam, no maam, said Yvonne Savoy. Because you dont find that, you dont find that often, said Sandra Mason. People not helping, always asking but never helping. So, [this] is awesome. Its a happy Easter. It was just a random act of kindness, said Shan Lafleur, after receiving ten dollars of free gas. Random acts of kindness the church hopes will multiply. I think that the more people do it, the more it will spread. I really do, said Jeff Boler. Harvest for Lost Souls Church gave out about 900 dollars worth of gas today, helping almost 100 people. During the 24 hours filled with random acts of kindness, church members also took care packages to hospitals, police stations, and fire stations and gave out rolls of quarters at washaterias. fox4beaumont/news/features/top-stories/stories/southeast-texans-surprised-random-acts-kindness-2952.shtml
