A Brief History of Crux and Tao Ansata at UP Tarlac By: Brod Napoleon Clemente The Formative Years Crux Ansata was born in UP Diliman in 1963. Archaic sportsman Antonio “Anthony” Nicanor Jr. founded it. Anthony is a former UP Varsity player. Describing the situation at UP Diliman then Anthony said: “Fraternities were mostly the Greek Letter type. But the students were practically annihilating each other through constant rumbles or with violent initiation rites. We wanted to organized a fraternity that is different, one that is geared on academic excellence and anchored on sports activities, but free from the violence that mark the day then. And most of all, there would be no physical contact during initiation rites.” He plucked exactly 13 members of the UP Student Catholic Action (UPSCA) to organized the first ever chartered group of the fraternity. He was assisted by Fr. Pet Lim of of UP Parish Church. Then Brod Anthony joined a dozen or so educators from Diliman to set-up UP Tarlac. UP Tarlac is a joint undertaking between the University and the Provincial Government of Tarlac then headed by Gov. Benigno Aquino Jr. Both would share in the cost of maintaining the University branch. And so the Liberal Arts curriculum very popular in Europe and in the US was brought to Tarlac. Brod. Anthony would organized a chapter of the fraternity here. Birth Pains He tapped local students. But it will take a while before Brod. Anthony could make a headway.There was organization, re-organization, chartering and re-chartering of members.
