A Christmas Story: Once upon a time in a land far, far away (also known as Maidenhead) a young Swiss girl arrived in a foreign land, en route to America, where she hoped to find a land of opportunity and giant vistas. There in leafy Berkshire she met a young Englishman on a boat and fell in love. The couple settled down together and had three children. The young Englishman loved cars and quietly followed motor racing (because his new wife came from Switzerland where there wasnt any motorsport). They combined their Christmas traditions so that on Christmas Eve they had a traditional dinner and then carols around a real tree (with real candles) before opening their presents. On Christmas Day there was breakfast en famille with freshly brewed coffee and homemade croissants (because no one had to get over excited about Santa bringing presents overnight). A traditional British Christmas lunch followed with Turkey, sprouts, cranberry sauce as well as figgy pudding and brandy cream. The family grew up but the tradition persisted. Gathering every year they gave thanks for all they had and spent a moment thinking of those who had less. When I met John my father was delighted to finally have someone else in the family who was interested in motorsport - well, in all sport as it turned out - and cars. He was just as delighted that John and I made our own Christmas tradition. We still have a Christmas Eve meal before opening presents and we still spend time thinking of those we have lost in the year past, being thankful for what we have and sparing a thought for those whose lives are as fortunate and full of laughter as our own. Tonights late night Christmas meal will be that most popular British meal - Chicken Tikka with Pilau rice...the Tikka spices mixed by John..no bought sauces here. Tomorrows celebration meal with Duck with Quatrepices and a sloe gin sauce, chiffonade of sprouts, roast potatoes, maple roast carrots and parsnips and, of course, stuffing balls. Pudding will be Zuccotto di Panettone. This year has been long and tough but full of rewards both in business, at home and in our extended motorsport family. We thank you all for your companionship, for listening, for being our cheer leaders, for your good, kind common sense. Have a very merry Christmas however you choose to celebrate it. And our last present to you is an extra show tonight at 8pm. We hadnt intended to do one but, hey..what else have we all got to do tonight? Theres sod all on TV, dinner will wait for a bit as we had a late lunch after last bits of running around, we didnt get in invitation to Mat Fernandez birthday party.... So enjoy...and well see you all next year.
