A Christmas Wish… I wish all you have the best Christmas possible, that your Christmas wishes all come true and that the warmth and love of your families is soft and enveloping. I am a curmudgeon at times and my rough exterior hides my anxiety at this time of year. Many years ago in a war torn country 10,000 miles from my home I found the true meaning of Christmas in an orphanage of small terrified children. Our chaplain commandeered a 6x6 truck and we hauled a few meager presents, by US standards, to the children to spend a few hours sharing our Christmas with them. I had never seen such happy faces in my life and the joy was palpable. We finished our day by getting to see Bob Hope and his troupe doing their last Christmas show in Vietnam…1972. Every year since that Christmas, over the course of my USAF career, I volunteered to bring Christmas to the troops who were stationed in remote outposts by flying our C-130 Hercules loaded with turkey dinners with all the fixings and a chaplain to them so they did not feel forgotten. Every Christmas is hard for me because these memories permeate my soul and I feel a bit alone not being there for those who can’t come home but have to stay vigilant for the rest of us on Christmas. I appreciate my friends and all the blessing I have in my life these days, but this time of year is hard for me. I wish you all the very best this Christmas Season and hope all your families are happy and well. Come Christmas I will add each and every one of you to my list for this Christmas when I think about those who have passed through my life over the years and say a special thanks for all of you. But I will remain…Bah Humbug
