A Fawn Farewell by Rick Chaboudy It seems like only yesterday - TopicsExpress

A Fawn Farewell by Rick Chaboudy It seems like only yesterday that hundreds of you were picking out R names for the little 5 lb fawns. Before we knew it, the bottles sat empty on a shelf, the Hibiscus plants sat leafless and the spots became part of a disappearing act. And suddenly, it was time for phase 2. The scenario was the same as before. I drove them to a large ranch where in the middle of some woods a good-size temporary holding area awaited them. Inside were a few other deer, all in the same age range. For several weeks, the deer will bond with each other and then the mini herd will be released into the wild to join the other wild deer. When all the fawns met inside the enclosure, there was some well-placed sniffing that took place. The larger deer then began a cleaning process and soon, all four were involved in a mutual grooming seminar. And then...that was it. The mini herd walked off and much like Dawn and Jewel from last year, never looked back. There I stood, suddenly, a distant memory. As I drove away, I could barely see them in the distance. Their heads were down. They were all grazing and they looked like any other wild deer herd. Thats the way it was suppose to work all along.
