A Happy Peaceful Saturday.... From us California folks (whatever political stripes we happen to be.) My own soapbox must have a little tag somewhere that says, liberal as hell. Actually I had to get so one sided I forget the Presidents admonition to go easy one one another, to still be civil to our fellow Americans. I have relatives, of course, who have not EVOLVED so much as I have. I have been cautioned by those who love me, to still try to listen to both sides. Hey, Quakers believe (in theory if not always practice) that every person has a bit of the divine in them. Called the conscience. There is that of God in every man. My hope and my prayer is to never let down you who believe in me, you my FRIENDS. I hope I can remember to look for the good in everyone. The divine light, in each of us. Henri Nouwen, not quite a Quaker but very much like Quakers, very much a contemplative, once said about the FRIEND .... When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives mean the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand. The Friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a Friend who cares. If only.
