A NIGHTMARE ON IBADAN/LAGOS EXPRESS-WAY Yesterday, Tuesday 5th - TopicsExpress

A NIGHTMARE ON IBADAN/LAGOS EXPRESS-WAY Yesterday, Tuesday 5th November 2013, I left Ibadan at 10.30 am on my way to Lagos. Despite the atrocious condition of the road itself, the journey was okay till I got to just before the Redeem Camp. Then my nightmare began. (Or could I call it Day-mare?) Your guess is as good as mine. Suffice it to say I didnt get to Ojota, Lagos until 5 pm. That means it took me 6 and a half hours to drive from Ibadan to Lagos, a mere 110 kilometres. Normally, taking the road into consideration, the journey would have taken 1 and half hours. I could have hopped on a plane from Lagos to London and reach London in that time and get to my home in Peckham. The annoying thing is that there are no signs of anything that caused the traffic jam. By the time we got to Mountain of Fire, trust my Naija people, my lane was already facing oncoming vehicles, further confusing the traffic. On the Long Bridge, made up of 4 lanes, my onward lane had been restricted to only one. Oncoming vehicles had taken over 3 of our lanes. Crazy!!!! I nearly went mad with frustration and helplessness. And this was the case till we got to Berger. Its a dogs life. Theres nothing I hate most than travelling from Ibadan to Lagos. Although such traffic jams happen everyday, this was the worst one I experienced and I know other Nigerians have experienced worse. And Julius Berger and RCC have hardly started re-constructing the road. One can imagine the nightmare when construction begins and they say it will take 4 years to complete. Id hate to be on that road; yet it is unavoidable. Damn!!
